Rainy Hall, New College, Mound Place, Edinburgh
University of Edinburgh
Value: £1,037,000
Project Description
Rainy Hall is a successful University of Edinburgh repeat business conservation and restoration project providing significant internal works heritage experience and traditional skills training for our joiner apprentices.
Works included a new Main Hall floor and stage; extensive wall panel repairs; specialist cleaning and decoration (with art conservator liaison); AV, lighting and heating upgrades. We formed a major new structural wall opening, installed a new commercial kitchen, platform lift and access ramps.
The Hall is JK Rowling’s inspiration for the enchanted Dining Hall ceiling at Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter books and films. Absolute protection of the existing valued fabric was essential and managed without incident.
